We’re thrilled to be leading the complete interior design for a striking new construction residence in Key Biscayne, FL. Designed as the primary home for a young international couple preparing to start a family, this 5,000 sq. ft., three-story house embodies a contemporary minimalist architecture that serves as a blank canvas for an emotionally rich and highly personalized interior story.
As their trusted design partner, we are guiding our clients through every step, from the initial space planning and detailed construction drawings to project management and creative collaboration with construction firm 518. We’ve been entrusted with translating our clients’ bold vision into a sophisticated, livable reality. With that in mind, we didn’t just aim to create a beautiful home, but to craft functional spaces that reflect their contrasting personalities while supporting the next chapter of their lives.
Bold Interior Design in a Key Biscayne Home
Our clients approached the project with both curiosity and a willingness to explore bold ideas. Each brought a distinct personal aesthetic: he was drawn to deep, moody tones and tactile materials, while she gravitated toward softness, lightness, and a sense of calm. Rather than choosing one direction over the other, we saw an opportunity to create harmony through contrast. This vision gave rise to our design concept, “A Contra Luz”, inspired by the interplay of light and shadow, where opposing elements meet to create balance.
What makes this Key Biscayne home stand out is its unique approach to not only materials but also to layout. For example, the flooring was installed in an unexpected diagonal pattern throughout. As a result, it creates visual movement and sets the tone for the rest of the design. We used a mix of materials on the staircase, added bold wallpaper accents, and incorporated striking stonework across various design elements. Colorful, expressive artwork brings energy and personality to the space.
Exploring the design intent, you’ll find that the real beauty lies in the thoughtful details. We paired dark, exotic stone together with soft-toned wood flooring to reflect the unique style of both clients. On one hand, soft wallpaper tones were chosen to create a peaceful atmosphere; on the other, detailed woodwork was added to reflect his love for handcrafted design. Bold, unconventional artwork ties it all together in this Key Biscayne home, reflecting something they both love, pieces that feel unexpected and full of character.
