A personal haven for the head of the home, the master bedroom is one of our favorite rooms to design. There are no strict rules for designing this special space. While there are some basic elements all master bedrooms share, the designs can look completely different. Not only is it typically the largest bedroom, but it often includes a private bathroom.
When our DKOR team designs any bedroom, you’ll find bespoke details that cater to the specific needs of our clients. Because we know how special this room is, we’ve gathered some master bedroom design ideas to inspire you.
CONTEMPORARY MASTER BEDROOM DESIGN IDEAS
To begin with, we’re highlighting master bedroom design ideas with a contemporary style. But what exactly is contemporary design? Let’s break it down!
In interior design, a contemporary style refers to what’s currently trending. Overall, it includes popular design elements and trends of the moment. There are several hallmarks associated with this style such as clean lines, natural materials, organic accents, and layered textures. You’ll also typically find neutral color schemes coupled with pops of color in a contemporary design.
For those of you seeking to add this ever-evolving style to your list of bedroom ideas, we hope you’ll take a minute to explore our collection below. The following bedrooms offer inspiration from the creative minds of DKOR’s talented interior designers.
COLLECTION OF BEDROOM IDEAS
SLEEK LINES AND VERTICAL MOVEMENT

To begin with, let’s talk about this stunning master bedroom idea that was designed with a ‘Contemporary Twilight’ theme. It is defined by sleek lines and vertical movement, with statement wood wall paneling that draws the eye. Additionally, to accent the gray color palette, our designers added pops of ochre. As the clients of this home moved here from Mexico, we wanted them to feel the warm energy of the Sunshine State.
Some other design details of note included, for example, the floating shelving, low bed frame, nesting table, and acrylic chair. All of these elements were chosen to be not only the least intrusive but also the most functional. Their clean silhouettes fit perfectly with the modern ambiance of the home.
FRESH AND CONTEMPORARY DESIGN

Next, step into this beautiful, light-filled dormitorio principal. Part of a Fort Lauderdale home, the vision for this project took cues from the beachy surroundings and the pre-existing architecture. Our clients wanted this space to be both chic and uplifting, with an artistic edge.
In creating this fresh, contemporary design we balanced the warmth of the medium-toned hardwood flooring with the cool gray pops of color. A large abstract artwork makes a splash on the wall, creating a focal point.
Behind the bed, we installed a headboard wall that makes the bed feel larger and more special. This is one of our favorite bedroom design ideas to create an eye-catching statement. Adding to this, we installed floating shelves that house bedside essentials without taking up valuable floor space.
SUNNY ISLES BEDROOM DESIGN

If the sound of the waves crashing outside your window makes you feel at ease, then this Sunny Isles bedroom design is the perfect inspiration for your project. A beautiful light gray color palette grounds the space with a sense of serenity.
As this condo design was inspired by sailing, we incorporated accents of navy to give this master bedroom a nautical touch. Other than the accents, our designers chose to keep the palette mainly neutral as the blue of the sea and sky outside creates a scenic backdrop for this space.
DREAMY BEDROOM RETREAT

Inspired by Venezuela’s Médanos de Coro National Park, this room balances opposing forces: dark and light, hard and soft, manmade and organic. With the theme of ‘Modern Eclectic,’ it blends different elements to create an overall sense of harmony.
To begin with, the large bed frame is attached to the headboard and nightstands to create one unified structure. Unique vertical wood paneling stretches up behind the bed, creating a beautiful statement wall.
All the lights in this room are built-in; as a result, clutter was minimized. In addition, the houseplants inside echo the view of the greenery outside the large windows. Window treatments are also minimal to allow as much light to flood in as possible. It’s a dreamy retreat from the stresses of everyday life.
MINIMALIST BEDROOM DESIGN IDEA

Sometimes, simple is best. Given that, in this master bedroom design, we selected various minimalist pieces for our clients. The bed frame matches the hardwood flooring, creating a sense of continuity. A subtle grain pattern in the bed frame contributes to the space’s natural, holistic feel. We chose a nightstand with three large hidden drawers for easy storage next to the bed. Finally, the soft baby blue linens give the room a pop of color.
MONOCHROMATIC BEDROOM DESIGN

If you’ve been considering monochromatic master bedroom design ideas, here’s your sign to go for it! We love taking one color and incorporating many different shades of it into a single design. This master bedroom exudes luxury, from the velvet duvet to the floor-to-ceiling draperies. Of note is the statement padded headboard, which provides a unique texture and contemporary look.
CHIC GRAY DESIGN

Next, this spacious master bedroom offers a different take on a chic gray design. In this room, we combined a sophisticated color palette with rich textures. The back wall behind the bed features a textural treatment with a slight sheen, so it gives it a satin-like finish.
A daybed in the corner provides a cozy lounging spot by a large window. Additionally, the tufted bench at the foot of the bed offers an additional seating option for our clients. Finally, the space is anchored by a large gray area rug, contributing subtle texture, plus a sense of comfort.
A BEDROOM WITH LIGHT PATTERNS

Bringing in more color, this master bedroom pulls from the beauty of both the light patterns and shells on the seafloor.
Aside from the wood elements that make the room inviting, the primary colors are within both the burnt orange and light pink family. This was intended to provide a warm contrast to the cool blue of the sea visible through the windows.
For the purpose of providing privacy while still allowing our clients to enjoy the views, we selected translucent floor-to-ceiling drapes. The abstract pattern on the carpet introduces not only texture but also artistry to the space.
COASTAL MASTER BEDROOM

When you have views as incredible as these, it’s always a joy to create a design that honors the scenery. In this coastal master bedroom, we focused on a color palette of turquoise and tan, echoing the color of both the sea and sand.
As can be seen, the large area rug features an abstract marbled pattern reminiscent of light reflecting off the ocean. We wanted the emphasis to be directed towards the floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows. With this in mind, we kept this room very open and airy. In addition, a daybed in the corner provides a quiet place to read or enjoy the beauty of the sunsets.
