Big reveals are so special for our interior design firm. Previously, we shared the final before and after photos of the Breezy Miami Estate<\/a> here on our design blog. Our talented interior design team truly transformed the dated home interiors into modern living spaces. As a result, this Miami remodeling project led to an amazing home makeover<\/a>, featuring creative IKEA hacks.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

In this post, we want to show you how we integrated some IKEA pieces to create beautiful “built-in” looking pieces and provide you with the inspiration to get creative and start implementing them in your home, bringing to life those ideas you’ve had in mind for a while but didn’t know how to start.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

We love IKEA Hacks not only because they help us get creative but also because they are a great cost-effective solution. For this contemporary home makeover, the use of IKEA pieces instead of opting for entirely custom carpentry pieces was ideal; it helped keep the costs down!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

2 Must-Try IKEA Hacks<\/h2>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

We decided to go ahead and create two modern IKEA Hacks for this Miami home: one in the family room and one in the pool room. We assured you would not be able to tell IKEA pieces were mixed in! Our clients preferred to have IKEA hacks in informal areas, and\u00a0chose to have the custom carpentry pieces in their formal spaces like the bar and living room.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

TV Unit – Family Room<\/h3>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

For the TV unit in the family room, we used the Besta system<\/a> to create a floating entertainment and storage unit; this system is so polyvalent, you can use it for many applications! We chose the deeper and taller units as we knew that our clients wanted lots of storage. To make it look like a custom piece we asked our carpenter to wrap the entire piece with wood veneered panels. We chose the veneer to be chocolate grey wood to add a little bit more life and warmth to the unit. The wrap hides all of the nails that you typically see in IKEA pieces; just perfect!<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

As for the IKEA Besta finishes, it’s always nice to use a darker color for the carcasses (or interior) of your cabinets, it makes it feel more elegant and different than the usual white or beech wood.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n

\n\t\t\t

We would have used the Besta collection doors for this piece, but IKEA discontinued the taupe colored doors just as we were about to purchase them! Not a problem, we found this great company – Semi Handmade<\/a> – who has a large selection of doors that they create just to fit IKEA pieces. After reviewing their samples, we found the perfect grey-taupe \u00a0to pick up the tones of the MDC vinyl wallcovering<\/a> to be used on the built-out wall, around the floating TV unit.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n

The wallcovering plays a key role around the TV unit; its adds texture and rhythm. The trend in the past few years for contemporary spaces, have been very monochromatic, using a lot of greys and having furniture and accessories with very simple, straight lines. But that can make interiors feel sterile. So if using a grey and taupe color palette, as we did in this Miami remodeling project, and because IKEA often has very straight lines and smooth surfaces, it is important to play with textures and materials to add life to the spaces!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

Our second IKEA hack also has a mix of textures. Here in the pool room we wanted to create more of a moody space, so we used a dark grey wall covering from Eykon. It makes the entire wall feel more masculine. We also chose to use Besta units<\/a> in the dark finish, to keep it more elegant.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

For the upper, thinner, cabinets, we used the taupe doors from Semi Handmade and for the under counter cabinets we asked our carpenter to create custom doors with the same wood veneer he used to create the countertop, floating shelves and vertical partitions.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n

We kept the same concept of having the wood veneer go all around and conceal any unpleasant nail or junctions. Again you can see how all of the Ikea Besta units are well integrated into the overall carpentry wall.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n
