It\u2019s back to school season! So, of course, the first thing that pops into our interior designer minds is: every kid needs the perfect homework station. Since homework isn\u2019t most kids\u2019 favorite thing to do, they need kids’ desk ideas that will set them up for success and keep them motivated.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The good news for Mom and Dad is you don\u2019t need a dedicated room to accomplish this<\/span>\u2014<\/span>all you need is a little creativity and to have your four must-have elements covered. (Trust us, as Miami designers we\u2019ve done this quite a bit in the last few years.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Keep reading to learn our keys to homework station success and discover some beautiful kids’ desk ideas we have designed for our clients. No matter the size of your room (or budget), there are options for everyone!<\/span><\/p>\n

1. Enough Surface Space<\/strong><\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

Start by determining where you\u2019ll set up the desk, then measure the space to determine how big the desk can be. Remember, your kid will likely be doing projects as well as writing papers and doing math assignments in this space, so the bigger the better\u2014within reason. (It still has to fit in the room.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Armed with your measurements, check out your local stores and favorite online retailers. If you\u2019re not finding anything that\u2019s right, you can always go the custom or built-in routes.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Plenty of Light<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The most prime space for a homework station will be near a window, so that the kids can do homework by natural light and then switch on a lamp when it gets dark out. But, if you don\u2019t have a locale like that in your home, don\u2019t worry! Just be sure to set up the homework spot with a lamp of its own.<\/span><\/p>\n

We suggest getting a lamp that has a three-way dimmer so they can adjust their light levels based on their own eyes. (Doctors say too much light is just as harmful as not enough!)<\/span><\/p>\n

3. A Comfy Chair<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Comfort is key if they\u2019ll be sitting there for hours a day. Take your kid chair shopping and ask them to pick out the one that\u2019s the comfiest for them. <\/span><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t be afraid to switch it up if the little one says the chair is not comfortable. Good design always bends for real-life needs!<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Storage, Storage, Storage<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Keeping their supplies organized and in their proper places is important. When choosing a desk, look for one with shelves or drawers so kids\u2019 essentials are never much further than arm\u2019s reach. <\/span><\/p>\n

If you need a little bit more space, invest in functional and beautiful storage options, like bookshelves, cabinets, wall-mounted shelves, cubbies, and more. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>
