Design Check-In: A Modern Master Bathroom

A couple of weeks ago, we showed you the rest of the interior design plan for this beautiful Coral Gables home. It’s a sleek and modern ode to balance. That theme is reflected in this modern master bathroom design as well. Keep reading to discover what this space looked like before, and see how much progress we’ve made!

Before the makeover, this master bath looked basic, bland, and, to be honest, a little clunky. The pattern on the striated tile went in all different directions, and the design was an odd mix of modern and traditional, leaving the space feeling confused and chaotic.

Let’s just say, it wasn’t a master bathroom you’d want to spend lots of time in. So we got to work and made some magic for our clients!

In Progress: A Wow-Worthy Retreat

We’re a few days away from a completed master bathroom, but we couldn’t wait to share this stunning space with you. Check out a few in-progress shots showing the installed soaking bathtub and tiles, and keep scrolling for renderings of the final look.

We’re swooning over the tile, from Italian manufacturer Atlas Concorde, that just went up. We love using Italian tiles in our projects because they’re high quality, and we can always count on the aesthetics, innovation, materials, and breadth of selection to be on point. We particularly love using porcelain tiles in modern bathrooms because they’re durable and low maintenance.

At DKOR enjoy working with these products so much that we even won an award for it! (We won Outstanding Residential Tile Design at the Coverings Installation & Design Awards in April 2017.)

Now back to the design! While the modern master bathroom is still under construction, we thought we’d give you a sneak peek at the design intent renderings so you can see what the room will look like once it’s complete.

Modern Master Bathroom Design

It’s night and day, right? The new bathroom is brighter and the design feels fresh—like a modern spa you could see yourself being pampered in. Instead of tiling the tub into the wall, we left it freestanding to lend a sense of openness, and a skylight allows lots of natural light to flood the room.

Carrying the theme of balance in from the rest of the house, the wall-to-wall white tile (which can feel cold) is balanced by warm blonde wood and a crisp black-framed window. The pair of shower heads in the luxuriously large shower adds to the feeling of a balanced room.
