One of the best parts about working on a new construction project? The complete freedom it provides. And when you’re working on a kids playroom, there is all the more opportunity to think outside the box to create a magical, memorable space for little ones.
That’s exactly what we did recently for a forest-inspired 9,000-square-foot home in Palm Beach Gardens in collaboration with Omega Builders and Brenner Architecture Group. While the majority of the home is filled with earthy neutrals and organic textures, there are a few spaces splashed with vibrant hues. Namely, the playroom and bedrooms of our clients’ two young daughters.
Today, we’re guiding you through the kids playroom design, where you’ll see custom setups for the girls to learn, explore, and grow. More than just a playroom, it’s a portal to their imagination, filled with colors and shapes that spark their creativity.
KIDS PLAYROOM DESIGN

The kids playroom in this home isn’t just a small, leftover space. It was intentionally designed as part of this new construction home. Building from the ground up gave our clients the freedom to include the spaces they truly wanted, and a dedicated playroom was high on the list. Tucked into a corner of the house, the room is connected to nature through large windows, allowing natural light to pour in. This makes it feel open and airy, so it’s never boxed in.
Our clients envisioned a room with enough space for their little girls to enjoy a range of activities, from studying to playtime. Most of all, they wanted it to be a joyful, inviting place, so we turned their wishes into a welcoming haven with bright, cheerful colors.
HOW THIS FUN KIDS’ PLAYROOM DESIGN WAS CREATED
As designers, we’re always thinking one step ahead when it comes to practicality. As we always say, a space isn’t beautiful if it’s not functional. A space has to serve dual purposes, to be enjoyable and also to meet the needs of our clients’ lifestyles.
In this case, we wanted to create a room that can grow as the girls grow. For that reason, elements like the furniture are kid-friendly and easy to move, allowing the space to evolve as the girls grow or even transition into another type of family room in the future. A few swaps, and this space can easily become a teen game room or quiet homework space.

To tap into a sense of youthful energy, the space is framed by two eye-catching walls: one with a beautiful flowing, watery-like treatment and another that is solid magenta. The wood-paneled TV wall and flooring create a connection to the natural wood accents found throughout the rest of the home.
MUST HAVE: CLEVER STORAGE UNITS
Playrooms can get messy, so our designers decided to create lots of storage options, both open and closed. On the left, the white storage boxes are designed to organize toys and craft materials, helping the playroom stay clean and tidy after use. These boxes keep things in order, and we labeled them so even little kids can help pick up.

Isn’t the layout a visual treat? Geometric shapes add interest in this kids playroom, from the floor poufs to the pendant lighting. A single, extra-long desk provides lots of space for both girls to work on school projects and crafts side by side. The girls can display their masterpieces on custom floating shelves stacked up the walls.

Here’s a closer look at the desk area. Notice how the lines are pleasingly parallel, creating a space that feels organized, but still has lots of room to spread out. We chose bold pink and sunshine yellow because these colors help stimulate and inspire an upbeat creativity session.
DESIGN YOUR DREAM KIDS PLAYROOM WITH DKOR
Designing this colorful playroom was pure joy at every step. We chose each element to spark creativity, support focus, and foster a sense of play. A playroom is more than just a room; it’s a soft landing place for kids to dream and grow at home.
We hope you loved exploring it with us. Be sure to check out our other kids’ room designs and blog posts like this one. There’s a whole world of creativity and fun waiting to be discovered!
