Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and imagine you have stepped into a quiet Japanese zen garden. This serene concept is the foundation of one of our recent Miami interior projects, a new construction home.
In collaboration with Praxis Architecture, our team brought the peaceful elements of a zen garden to a 5,200-square-foot Miami new construction home on Bay Point Road.
Our design will feature a well-balanced relationship between contrasting forces to give our clients, a young family with two kids, the relaxing home environment they deserve.
Wood contrasts with mixed metals, while textural elements offset glass, together with smooth leather balancing intricate textiles—all in an organic, neutral color palette. Today, we’re sharing the heart of the home, the family room. Step into the garden-inspired Miami interiors below!
Miami Interiors: Inside the Living Room
Let’s begin by exploring the beautiful common area that the whole family can enjoy. This large family room blends several motifs found throughout the house, such as a neutral color palette accented by moody grey-blue and mustard yellow. As can be seen, texture plays an important role in this home’s design. For that reason, we incorporated natural plants and stone elements to achieve a zen garden aesthetic.
Our Miami interior designers made sure to provide plenty of seating options, so our clients can engage in a number of activities in this one space. The furniture is both modern and elevated, yet casual enough to be used daily.

As zen gardens revolve around order and symmetry, we decided to create a large built-in with grid shelving. Our design team wanted to add a sense of depth. With this intention, they chose a calming grey-blue color to balance the neutral furniture. In addition, natural textures soften the strong horizontal and vertical lines used in the room, from the pattern on the table to the dried foliage.

As can be seen from this perspective, our clients can enjoy the beauty of their garden outside. The floor-to-ceiling windows foster a strong indoor-outdoor connection – a feature we further emphasized by using light and airy window treatments. This allows natural light to flood in during the day, shining brightly in these sunny Miami interiors.
An Open-Plan Living Space

The open-plan living and dining area transitions smoothly from one space to the next, much like a gently flowing stream in a zen garden.
The colors, shapes, and materials are completely cohesive so as not to jar the senses. While this thoughtfully curated space is stunning, it’s also highly functional. While this thoughtfully curated space is stunning, it’s also highly functional, perfect for when the family hosts.
Rather than traditional artwork, we’ve allowed textures, plants, and lighting to organically decorate the space. For instance, the wood paneling above the dining table has an opening that reveals a marble shelving inlay lit by LED.
Two intersecting statement pendants above the table create an artistic centerpiece in midair.

The Beautiful Bookcase

A closer look at the built-ins reveals some of our clients’ artwork and treasured items. This beautiful bookcase, with its pleasing geometry, creates simple organization, giving every décor element, such as a vase, book, or sculpture, a cherished place to be displayed.

Finally, here’s a glimpse of the small table and chairs in the family room, perfect for enjoying a coffee or snack. With children in the family, it was important to create multi-use spaces where everyone can gather in one room, even if they are doing different activities. From this angle, you can fully take in the cool neutral color palette, coupled with warm pops of mustard yellow.
We hope you’ve enjoyed exploring this family room inspired by a zen garden. Stay tuned for more reveals from this home in Miami! If you’re hoping to bring serenity to your own Miami interiors, feel free to contact us here.
